Disclaimer regarding new and second-hand products and load capacities

At Gerrits Magazijninrichting, as well as new warehouse fittings, we also sell used and second-hand warehouse racking, parts and other warehouse equipment.

Second-hand products may vary in appearance, technical condition, specification and origin. It is therefore important that you check, before putting the product into service, whether it is suitable for the specific application, load and configuration for which you intend to use it.

On this page, we explain what you need to bear in mind when using second-hand warehouse fittings and the load-bearing capacities specified.

1. Products used

Second-hand products have been used previously and may therefore show signs of wear and tear.

Depending on the product, the following features may be included, for example:

  • minor scratches or damage;

  • discolouration;

  • signs of wear;

  • paintwork damage;

  • minor dents or superficial damage;

  • stickers or fragments thereof;

  • differences in colour or finish;

  • wear and tear resulting from previous use.

We aim to supply second-hand products in the best possible condition. However, the condition of a second-hand product may vary from item to item and from batch to batch.

Where relevant damage or specific details are known, we endeavour to highlight these as clearly as possible in the product description and/or photographs.

A second-hand product is not automatically technically equivalent to a new product.

2. Differences between the products used

In the case of second-hand warehouse fittings, products may come from different batches, production years or origins.

As a result, differences may arise, for example, in:

  • colour;

  • profile shape;

  • implementation;

  • manufacturer;

  • dimensions;

  • connections;

  • surface finish;

  • load-bearing capacities;

  • accessories and fasteners.

You should therefore always check whether the parts on offer are actually suitable for use with your existing warehouse fittings.

If you wish to add used components to an existing racking system, we recommend checking in advance whether the components can be combined with one another from both a structural and technical point of view.

3. Load-bearing capacity of second-hand warehouse racking

The stated load-bearing capacity of a warehouse racking system depends on the racking’s overall configuration.

The load-bearing capacity can be influenced by, amongst other things:

  • the make and model of the shelving unit;

  • the uprights;

  • the beams;

  • the dimensions of the parts;

  • the profile shape;

  • the beam length;

  • the girder height;

  • the number of beam levels;

  • the section structure;

  • the method of anchoring;

  • the floor on which the shelving is to be installed;

  • the load per level;

  • the distribution of the tax;

  • the used pallets or supports;

  • the method used to assemble the stand;

  • any damage or deformation.

The load-bearing capacity of a single component cannot, therefore, simply be taken as the load-bearing capacity of an entire racking system.

Important

Any load-bearing capacity stated on our website, in a quotation or in relation to a product must always be assessed in conjunction with the actual configuration and application.

If no up-to-date and reliable structural documentation is available for a used scaffold, we recommend having the load-bearing capacity for the specific situation determined or verified by an expert.

4. Load capacity depends on the configuration

A warehouse racking system must not be subjected to a load greater than that permitted for the relevant configuration.

For example:

A beam may have a specific load-bearing capacity, but this does not automatically mean that every arbitrary combination of columns, beams, heights, spans and loads will have the same load-bearing capacity.

Changes to an existing shelving unit can also affect its load-bearing capacity.

Examples of this include:

  • raising or lowering beam levels;

  • adding or removing beams;

  • replacing uprights;

  • combining parts from different makes or models;

  • changing the section length;

  • changing the tax;

  • changing the floor or subfloor;

  • the removal or alteration of fixings.

You should therefore only use a rack within the limits specified for the relevant configuration.

5. Inspection prior to commissioning

We recommend that you carefully inspect second-hand warehouse racking before putting it into use.

Please check the following, amongst other things:

  • uprights for dents, bends and other damage;

  • beams for damage or deformation;

  • connections and fastenings;

  • base plates and fixings;

  • diagonals and horizontal connections;

  • damage caused by collisions;

  • the stability of the structure;

  • the condition of the floor and the subfloor;

  • correct installation;

  • the maximum permissible load.

If you have any doubts about the technical condition or load-bearing capacity, we advise against using the shelving until it has been assessed by an expert.

6. Testing and inspection

Warehouse racking must be assembled, used and maintained safely.

We recommend that warehouse racking be inspected at regular intervals following assembly and commissioning, in accordance with the relevant standards, regulations and operational procedures.

In addition, users must report any damage or unsafe situations as soon as possible.

In the event of a collision or any other incident in which a rack may have been damaged, the rack in question must be inspected immediately and, if necessary, taken out of service until its safety has been confirmed.

Gerrits Magazijninrichting can advise you on the options available for the assembly, inspection and certification of warehouse racking.

7. Responsibility for the final application

The purchaser is responsible for ensuring that the product is used for its intended purpose.

This applies in particular to business customers who purchase second-hand warehouse racking and assemble, modify or combine it with other components themselves.

Before putting the product into use, the purchaser must ascertain whether:

  • the chosen location is suitable for the goods in question;

  • the dimensions are suitable for the application;

  • the load-bearing capacity is sufficient;

  • the configuration is correct;

  • the assembly is carried out correctly;

  • the floor and subfloor are suitable;

  • the necessary anchoring and safety measures are in place.

If you are unsure whether a product is suitable for your situation, please contact us before making a purchase.

8. Combine used components with existing racking

When extending or modifying an existing warehouse racking system using second-hand parts, extra care is required.

Parts that are similar in appearance or dimensions are not automatically interchangeable in terms of design.

You should therefore not use parts from a different make, model or version without first checking that they are suitable for this purpose.

This applies, amongst other things, to:

  • uprights;

  • beams;

  • base plates;

  • diagonals;

  • spacers;

  • locking pins;

  • timetables;

  • shelves;

  • connections;

  • anchors.

If you are unsure which parts are suitable for your existing shelving unit, we can help you identify the parts you need.

9. Product information and photos

We do our best to ensure that the product information on our website is as complete and accurate as possible.

However, dimensions, quantities, colours, product photographs, load-bearing capacities and other technical data are subject to change.

In the case of second-hand products, photographs may show a specific item or batch. The product actually supplied may exhibit minor differences in appearance, provided these fall within the description of the product on offer.

If a particular size, design, colour, brand or technical specification is essential for your application, we advise you to check this with us before making a purchase.

10. Availability of second-hand products

Our stock of second-hand warehouse equipment changes regularly.

A batch of second-hand items may consist of a limited number of parts. As a result, a product or a specific version may become unavailable over time.

Furthermore, used parts from different batches may show slight differences between them.

If you wish to expand in the future, we advise you to discuss this with us in advance.

11. Business customers (B2B)

Gerrits Warehouse Fittings sells a large proportion of its second-hand warehouse fittings to business customers.

Business customers are responsible for ensuring that the product is suitable for their specific business and usage circumstances.

A business buyer purchasing second-hand warehouse racking should, amongst other things, take the following into account before putting it into use:

  • the desired load;

  • the configuration;

  • the available documentation;

  • the assembly;

  • the floor load;

  • the anchoring;

  • the structural safety;

  • the applicable safety regulations.

Business customers are not entitled to a statutory right of withdrawal. Returns, warranty and liability are governed by the contract and the applicable terms and conditions of Gerrits Magazijninrichting.

12. Consumers

When a private individual purchases a product as a consumer, statutory consumer rights remain fully applicable.

This disclaimer is not intended to exclude or limit consumers’ statutory rights.

Even in the case of second-hand goods, a consumer is entitled to statutory protection if a product does not comply with the terms of the contract.

The statutory provisions relating to, amongst other things, conformity, the guarantee and the right of withdrawal remain applicable insofar as they apply to the purchase in question.

13. View products used

As used products may vary, it is possible to request further information about a product or batch in advance.

Where available, we can provide additional photographs, dimensions or information about the batch in question.

Would you like to assess a batch of second-hand goods first? If so, please contact us to discuss the options.

14. Important points to bear in mind when purchasing second-hand warehouse racking
